Euro Cup Day 6

[Group2] [Portugal vs. Denmark] [Anticipated Result – Portugal wins 2-1]

One of the most thrilling contests of the tournament so far. A win would have sealed Denmark’s place in the next round and Portugal desperately needed to win this one to stay in contention. Both teams fought hard and the better one on the day won but just by a whisker. It was a roller coaster ride with both teams taking a combined total of 25 shots at the goal. Nicklas Bendtner scored two goals for Denmark but couldn’t get the result they wanted.

[Final Result – Draw – 3-2]

Nicklas Bendtner (80')
Hélder Postiga (36')

[Group2] [Netherlands vs. Germany] [Anticipated Result – Netherlands wins 2-1]
This was the most awaited game of the tournament. And when it started in the first half it seemed to be living upto the expectation with constant attacks from both sides. Ozil had a brilliant shot hitting the pole in the 8th minute and Netherlands had at least two good chances within the first 10 minutes. 23rd minute saw some great passing and Gomez finding the net. And he doubled it up in the 38th minute with a great cross into the goal.

The second half saw relentless attacks by Holland which bore fruit in the 73rd minute with an excellent goal from Van Persie. But there was not much respite after that although the efforts continued. This should pretty much end the Dutch campaign in this tournament unless there is a miracle. For Germany, they have ensured their place in the Quarters.

[Final Result – Germany won 2-1]

Netherlands
Germany
Robin Van Persie (73')
Mario Gomez (24')
